“[…] for a long time, conservatives have been saying that entitlement and victimhood are the specialty of the left. This is how Middle Eastern dictators justify their corruption and the impoverishment of their people- the Israelis are to blame for it. This is how Robert Mugabe keeps Zimbabwe on its knees- the West is responsible. For the Russians, who want only peace and love, the Americans are to blame. If you believe in American exceptionalism […] you can see: we’re not so exceptional, after all,” Boris Fishman

Welcome to Snowflake Justice! If you have been involved in the political discourse during the last year regarding Brexit and/or the 2016 US Presidential election, then you have certainly heard the term “snowflake” being thrown around. Right-winged baby boomers have used this term without abandon to describe millennials and progressives for showing “sensitivity” around justice issues. People such as Janice Atkinson, kicked out of Ukip (a right-winged populist political party in the UK) for expenses fraud, and Donald Trump’s chief strategist Stephen Bannon have publicly used the term in a derogatory manner. However, as delicate as snowflakes may seem, they can certainly cause quite the uproar.

Every winter, roads close across the country and children wake up to a dream come true when billions of snowflakes force a snow day; this is the kind of turmoil we snowflakes are trying to stir up. Inconvenient and dangerous commutes come along with each snowflake that falls from the sky, and one wrong move could cause a deadly avalanche to cascade down upon whoever stands in its way… So why should any of us left-winged warriors be offended? May our protests block city streets and may our legislative powers allow children of all colors to wake up safe and happy in their homes!

Keep calling us snowflakes, but we will not be hindered until our storm brings JUSTICE.

This blog is your hub for social justice news (reliably sourced: NO FAKE NEWS), local activism, and ways for you to join in on the storm. Winter is coming, and it will be here to stay until the United States of America can stand united once again.

“We  need to participate in democracy in between elections by building powerful social movements that hold our elected officials accountable and put the needs of our communities front and center. Fighting to win real change means growing movements person by person and community by community. We have to build power by building a robust base of members; developing and supporting leaders; forming and supporting coalitions; and waging strategic campaigns to win real change,”

“We love to say, ‘Never again.’ Well, never again means never again. Never again means never again! We are put on this planet with a purpose. We are now alive in a moment of history that will show us what that purpose is. Have hope. Do not fear. Okay, fear- but do not let fear paralyze you,”

“Climate change comes with a time limit, which is why senior scientists last week were saying that if Trump carries through with his wager, it might be ‘game over.’ If he loses his bet, he will have cost us the last years in which we might have made a real difference,”

“Adolf Hitler. He, too, promised to make his country great again, campaigned against racial and religious minorities, championed Aryan working men, ridiculed a women’s movement that was more politically powerful in Germany than in any country in the world, surrounded himself with beautiful and subservient white women, and captivated crowds with slogans chanted in beer halls- the Twittersphere of his day. He also padlocked family planning clinics, declared abortion a crime against the state, and made a political alliance with the church, even though he was no more religious or monogamous than Trump,”

“Dr. King reminds us, too often ‘wait means never,’  and your journey [to becoming ‘woke’] may cost someone their citizenship, their religious freedom, or their life … it is your responsibility to know, see, and urgently help dismantle a supremacy that creates winners and losers through complicated, shrouded rules built on a basic desire to preserve power,”

“I want you to keep telling yourself: ‘THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. THIS IS NOT NORMAL.’ Repeat until it sinks to the deepest of your core. The minute you decide this is normal, this is just how it is, the minute you decide that appointing a white supremacist to one of the highest, most influential positions in the White House (and a long list of them follows, and I don’t mean Trump)- that is the minute that you give up. Stay vigilant. Stay focused. Stay OUTRAGED,”

“…the difference between issues governed by opinion and those governed by fact. If you don’t think poor people should get subsidized medical care, that’s ugly, but it’s an opinion you’re entitled to hold. Science isn’t like that: the heat-trapping properties of the carbon dioxide molecule simply are. Which is why, even if we fail in our efforts to stop Trump from making his bet [on climate change], it’s important for history to note what’s going on. One man is preparing to bet the future of the planet in a long-shot wager against physics,”

“The values that unite our communities are not in conflict; they’re intertwined … As we confront the threats that could undo decades of work toward equality, we have to gin up our courage, damn the bullies and blowhards, and demand that leadership celebrate women and girls,”
